On October 23rd, Vihaba has finally completed the registration process to receive FDA certification for various agricultural products. This certification is a firm confirmation of our products’ quality to our international customers.

What is FDA certification?

FDA Certification stands for Food and Drug Administration certification. This certification is issued under the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Bioterrorism Act) by the Food and Drug Administration, an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services.

FDA organization

The establishment of FDA organization can be traced back to the latter part of the 19th century and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Division of Chemistry. At that time, there was no explicit law regulating the quality of food, and drugs. Only then in 1906, the FDA organization was established operating as a federal consumer protection agency as the passage of the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act was passed by the US President Theodore Roosevelt.

Throughout many years of development, the FDA organization has evolved into a reliable agency that regulates and certifies food and drugs marketed in the US. It has always kept its core mission of protecting and promoting public health by ensuring the safety and security of human-used products, avoiding adulteration and misbranding products on the market.

FDA organization regulates a wide range of products, namely food products, human and veterinary drugs; vaccines and other biological products; medical devices intended for human use; radiation-emitting electronic products; cosmetics; dietary supplements, and tobacco products.

For foods importing to the US, the FDA will monitor the food manufacturing supply to ensure that the products are safe, sanitary, and labeled according to U.S requirements. This also means that imported goods also need to meet the legal requirements in the United States as domestically-produced foods. Therefore, all imported goods are subject to FAD inspection, following a series of stringent requirements set by FAD from the very early stage of procurement to final produced products.
